I headed over to the Mala carpark and joined a group of about 60 people. The walk went for about 2 hrs and covered a lot of interesting information about the aboriginal significance of many of the sections of the rock we walked past. After this tour ended I left the group to continue the walk around the base on my own. I only met a handful of other people doing the walk over the next few hours and it was a very peaceful and in parts surreal experience. It is really an awe inspiring place to be.
After returning to the carpark, the climb had been opened however after hearing the stories of the indigenous people and why they ask us not to climb Uluru, I have decided to respect that. I believe walking around the base and learning some of the cultural significance of the rock is just as rewarding.
Once back in Yulara, I met Kel and Braiden at the resort shopping centre and had some lunch before heading back to camp for some pool basketball. In the evening we went out for dinner at the Gecko Cafe where I had some fantastic Salmon and Bacon fettuccine.
