Today I returned to the National Park to show Kel and Braiden Uluru. We drove around the base and stopped to walk the short track to the Mutitjulu waterhole. With the recent rains, about a week ago, the waterhole was reasonable full and there was still a trickle running down from the top of the rock. Afterwards, we visited the Cultural Centre to look at the indigenous artwork and have some morning tea, before taking a drive out to Kata Juta (The Olgas) where I went on the Walpa Gorge walk.
The gorge is fantastic, and must be amazing when it is raining as the run off from the steep walls either side must be phenomenal. There were a few waterholes in the base of the canyon and the there is a surreal quietness if you stop and just stand still deep in the canyon with no one around. There is a definite benefit to travelling in the off season that you are not having to share these places with many people at all.
