Day 11 - Ballarat to Melbourne
First thing in the morning I took my car to a mechanic behind the Caravan park to grease up the suspension as there has been a wheel-bearing-like noise eminating from it since we pulled into Ballerat and also a slight knock in the steering when turning to the left. After 2 hours on the hoist yesterday afternoon, the mechanics found that the Wheel bearing noise was the result of a dry seal in the front of the tailshaft uni-joint which was easily fixed. The mechanic only wanted to charge me $30 dollars but I insisted that for 2 hours of labour they deserved a little extra and after the closed shop I joined them for a couple of beers. It's great to find such helpful people when you are a long way from home. The bearing noise is gone but the knocking noise remained, albeit a little more subtly. However with the assurance that there was no safety issue and could be fixed with some adjustment we departed Ballerat for Melbourne. After checking in at Braybrook Big 4 caravan park, I booked the car in at the local Repco service centre for tommorrow morning to have the steering issue addressed. Afterwards we organised some food for the BBQ that night and spent the rest of the arvo by the pool.
